Chocolate Dipped Macaron
I’ve never heard of a chocolate dipped macaron, but I stopped by Columbus Circle’s Bouchon and stopped in my tracks as soon as I saw it glistening in the display. There were a few flavors available, including caramel and chocolate. I chose pumpkin, since I love fall flavors and pumpkin. Here’s a picture of the hockey-puck sized monstrosity:

It is absolutely divine. The chocolate coating was really thick – maybe a full 2 milimeters thick, revealing the macaron inside. You can’t tell how well-made the shell is since the usual flaky crunchiness was masked by the chocolate. The chocolate was still “crunchy” though in the way that chilled chocolate dipped things usually are. The pumpkin flavor was still really vibrant though and paired surprisingly well with chocolate. Shell aside, the crumbly delicate rich texture of the macaron was still amazing and I am now a fan.
NYC: Marea (Aug. 2012)
Authors: Victor and Monty
Restaurant: Marea
Exec Chef: Michael White
Date: August 13, 2012
Victor’s Notes: Monty had only been here once for dinner, and he had a terrible experience. I wanted him to try dinner here, as my last dinner here was wonderful. In the end, he enjoyed the meal a lot (and was rather surprised haha)!
Food:
Amuse-bouche 1:
Sea diver scallops with turnip, mint, and corned cream.
Monte: Mint, corn, and scallops…great combination of flavors. It seems simple, but it’s really well executed

Restaurant: wd~50
Exec Chef: Wylie Dufresne

Dinner (New Tasting Menu!)
Victor’s Notes:
-wd~50 celebrated its 9th anniversary with two new tasting menus in July. This is the primary tasting menu, a 12-, 13-, or 14-course tasting. (The number of courses really depends on whether you classify the first, last, or both dishes as “courses”.)
-I took HORRIBLE pictures during this meal. I was pretty incompetent at iPhone picture-taking in July hahaha.
Monte: I think Wylie Dufresne is so creative and his food really made me think about flavor combinations. wd-50 was refreshingly casual and seemed to be all about the food. I really enjoyed just eating and not having to worry about whether or not I had a jacket.
